I took the time to explore Blockchain in Rust/Substrate, though not extensively, to get a concrete feeling of it. I did some tutorials, built a Rust-based state machine (thanks to an excellent tutorial by Shawn Tabrizi), and brushed up on my Solidity skills.
As expressed in my previous blog post, I wanted to build something substantial with Substrate. However, I eventually realized that I wasn’t too keen to continue. This is not a critique of Blockchain as a technology—I truly believe it is here to stay and that its major scalability and interoperability issues will eventually be resolved. It’s just that I’ll pause my Blockchain development efforts due to a lack of intellectual curiosity in this area.
I’ll continue exploring new things and new subjects to practice more Rust programming. This time, I aim to identify a real-world project—something I can build to learn from and potentially launch into production as an indie developer.
Maybe I’ll revive my mobile application development skills and integrate them with some Rust!
